Honda Motor Co., Ltd. will release the "Honda MT50" sports bike, equipped with a two-stroke engine, on June 27th. The bike can be enjoyed over a wide range of terrain, including not only city streets but also suburban areas and rough terrain. (Complies with 1979 noise regulations)
The Honda MT50 is based on the previously released Honda MB50, which was well received for its outstanding technologies such as a single-axis primary balancer, a bell-shaped combustion chamber, and an X-shaped backbone frame, as well as its innovative body design. It is a nimble sports bike equipped with large tires that provide excellent off-road performance, front and rear suspensions with good shock absorption, and handlebars with bars that are suitable for riding on rough terrain, making it a bike that can be thoroughly enjoyed both on and off-road.
Production plans are
The planned annual production volume is 62,000 units (including exports).
Standard cash price is
136,000 yen (excluding Hokkaido and some remote islands)
Honda's 50cc sports bike lineup now includes five models: the Honda CB50JX-I, Honda MB50, Honda XE50-II, Honda TL50, and the new Honda MT50. With each model having its own characteristics and ease of use, Honda is able to cater to a wider range of users.
Main features of the Honda MT50
engine
・Single-shaft primary balancer: A mechanism that uses one balancer shaft to balance the primary inertial force of the reciprocating part, reducing the vibrations specific to two-stroke engines.
・Combustion chamber centralized cooling cylinder head: The cylinder head is designed to concentrate more of the airflow around the combustion chamber while driving, effectively dissipating heat generated by the engine and reducing performance changes.
・Bell-shaped combustion chamber: Compared to the general hemispherical type, it has a greater effect on stirring the air-fuel mixture during the compression process, ensuring stable combustion from low to high speeds and preventing carbon clogging of the spark plugs.
・Separate oil supply system: Measures the throttle opening and supplies the ideal amount of oil according to engine speed.
・CDI ignition system = An ignition system that provides reliable ignition and improved starting performance, and is easy to maintain.
Body
・Heavy-weight concentrated design: Heavy weights such as the engine, fuel tank, and battery are positioned near the center of gravity, resulting in light maneuverability.
・X-shaped backbone frame: A simple frame constructed in an X-shape to reduce weight and increase rigidity, allowing for unique vehicle designs.
・Large diameter tires: The front wheels are 19-inch tires, the largest in their class, while the rear wheels are equipped with thick tires for driving on rough terrain, both of which are designed to improve off-road performance.
・Suspension: The car is fitted with a long stroke suspension of 135mm in the front and 120mm in the rear. In addition, the rear is tilted forward, which, combined with the wide tires, improves the car's ability to run on rough roads.
・Headlights and meter: Square headlights provide a wide illumination angle, and the highly visible speedometer and indicator lamps are integrated into the unit.
・Operability and safety: The turn signal switch, horn button, etc. are concentrated on the left side of the handlebar to improve operability. Also, safety is taken into consideration with a large tail lamp and turn signal lamp.
